A live traffic monitor is now active in Brookvale Road. Data is captured continuously in all weathers and light conditions. Data is pushed to this website regularly throughout the day. The count is for the section of road between Abbotts Way and Brookvale mini roundabout. Please note current day is LIVE DATA so will increase throughout the day. This data represents the times of "bus gate" operations. The % in brackets represents the increase vs the Council's WSP Baseline traffic report.

This traffic counting is produced using a high resolution LiDAR sensor. This works in all weather conditions and all lighting conditions. It tracks direction of the traffic as part of the count. This sensor technology is highly accurate and deployed globally for managing taffic, people and extensively for autonmous vehicles.

The Brookvale road sensor was installed on 25th January. Calibration and Verification testing conducted on Monday 27th. Further verification tests were conducted 28th, 29th and 30th using manual counts to verify accuracy. All testing confirmed greater than 98% accuracy of counting at peak times and greater than 99% accuracy at non peak times. Manual counts were conducted for more than 2,000 vehicles. Any errors in counting equate to under counting only (ie. real traffic numbers were higher than sensor counts).

As a comparison, the Council radar sensor is only confirmed to be 98% accurate with a 95% confidence - i.e. lower accuracy. It can be noted that the radar technology in the council's sensor, is far lower resolution.
